The whisper is that this one started, and was put out there, recently when the Gunns' directors started to feel that 'their project' was not only under threat but also starting to lose momentum. The word is that putting out the message that there is good money going for tradesmen sends the message that the company's confidence is high and that they are very determined.
A fringe benefit is also seen to be that it will help keep the local subcontractors in line and on side. Work that one out!
Now, a lot of local businesses do not like the message. And for very obvious reasons but Gunns seem to be oblivious to all of that. It also seems that they have some insiders who sympathise!

WELL ANONYMOUS YOU’VE JUST LOST YOUR BET!
Now to the guts of the matter, anti-Gunns or not? At zoneKRAP we observe very few of Gunns behaviours that warrant applause but there must be some. It’s just the case that we haven’t discovered them yet if they are there to be found.
Even some ‘Gunns insiders’ who worry about keeping their jobs, and feeding their family, also worry a bit about their employers’ behaviours. Some even try to find ways to laugh about them … but there you go.
Sometimes thinking people get trapped for one reason or another. We like them very much though, and that’s because they give us some interesting insights into the mindsets that drive the Gunns Bus very little of which is comical ... well they might be if we didn’t believe they were deadly serious.
The apparent ‘in house joke’ that goes something like this, “who runs this f•••en place anyway”, only proves the old adage that goes like this “many a true word is spoken in jest”
Getting right down to it, it a very dumb idea at best, or cynical machination at worst, to pay way above the odds to scoop up as much (ALL?) local labour as you can lay your hands on and especially so if the money you are paying is money you’ve borrowed rather than money you’ve earned or even can earn without a subsidy.
Think about it, you want to build a house, or extend your business, or even start one in Launceston/Tasmania ... apropos this ‘whisper’, the message is get out of the way, or in line perhaps. Either way, IF this pulp mill gets up expect every level of corporate deliquesce, spiced with incompetence, you can imagine and then some!
Well, ANONYMOUS I trust that helps you, as they say, join some dots. Krap is crap, nonetheless we’ll keep on trying to see things as shades of grey, rather than as either black or white, even if GUNNS GRAY is pretty dark and foreboding. BUT watch this space for a disclaimer perhaps and then we’ll really have quite a bit to worry about! That is, apart from all that is currently worrying.
